You
sell different Region DVDs, how do I know what will work with
my system??
When DVD was first established, the movie companies wanted
to be able to stagger the release of their titles around the
world, so for example, a DVD may be released in North America
and European buyers wouldn't be able to play this DVD on their
systems, they had to wait until the DVD is released for their
region. The vast majority of our titles are Region 2 as we
are a United Kingdom based company.
How many regions are there and what are they?
There are 6 regions in total:-
REGION 1: USA and Canada
REGION 2: Europe, Japan, South Africa, Middle East
REGION 3: South-East Asia
REGION 4: Central and South America, Australia, New Zealand
REGION 5: Former Soviet Union, India, Pakistan, Africa
REGION 6: China
I live in the United Kingdom, so I need Region 2 right??
Absolutely. But there are some titles which MAY NOT work
for you because they are Region 2 NTSC. NTSC Region 2 discs
are very uncommon and will be indicated where applicable.
Region 4 is also PAL, whilst Regions 1 and 3 are NTSC.
NTSC, what's NTSC??
There are two standards used to display the actual picture
from your DVD player onto your television screen: PAL &
NTSC. PAL is used in Regions 2 (except Japan) & 4, NTSC
is used elsewhere. The vast majority of Region 2 Discs are
PAL, although a few may be NTSC, such as: Sex In The City,
The 10th Kingdom. Most PAL televisions (eg those in Europe
& Australasia !!) will display NTSC as well as PAL. If
you live in another part of the world your television is almost
certainly NTSC, some NTSC televisions will display PAL but
the compatibility is not as good as the other way round. Check
your television's manual if in any doubt.
PAL, what's PAL??
See NTSC above, that pretty much covers it.
I have a multi region player, so no problems there??
Well.... 99.99% of the time no problem. There are a few titles
(mostly Region 1 as far as we know) which have RCE protection
against multi region players. Apparently Charlie's Angels
starring Cameron Diaz on Region 1 is just such a title. RCE
has met with a chilly reception by the DVD buying public so
it seems it may be being phased out as time goes on.
RCE, what's RCE?
RCE stands for Regional Coding Enhancement (see about Charlie's
Angels above). Basically (in theory !!) if you have a multi
region player and insert an RCE disc, the disc can tell your
DVD player is multi region and will not work, but it's not
foolproof, many multi region players can actually play them.
RCE discs are less common nowadays.
Can I return a disc which is not compatible with my system??
Sorry, no. We clearly mark all listings with their relevant
regions and it is up to you the buyer to ensure you get what's
right for you. That's why this information is here to ensure
you are familiar with the technology before making a purchase.
How do I return a faulty/broken/damaged disc??
Can I pay for a DVD in another way other than by credit/debit
card??
Of course. We accept United Kingdom cheques, United Kingdom
pounds (cash), United States dollars (cash), Euros (cash),
Paypal
(US $5 surcharge), Nochex,
and Bidpay
(US $5 surcharge).
I'm not happy sending my credit/debit card details over
the internet....
No problem, you can call us and pay or send your details
by fax machine, BUT not by e-mail as it is not secure
enough for financial information. e-mail
us for information on paying by telephone or fax.
Do you have any vacancies??
Very possibly. Due to continual expansion we are always on
the lookout for talented staff. We have two locations and
all vacancies would be either in Biddulph, North Staffordshire
or Watford, Hertfordshire. We're always keen to hear from
